Chronic Stress Can
Lead To Major Health Problems

Modern day society is filled with
stress. Families have migrated throughout the whole country,
but most require two incomes just to make ends meet, and day
care for children has now become the standard. There are a lot
of salaried individuals are also working longer hours, many
bringing home extra work, hoping that they are not the next one
to be laid off. All of us rush here and there, trying to take
care of everything from our household errands to our personal
needs. This is definitely a recipe for chronic stress, so it
should be no surprise that many of us are in a constant state
of being stressed out.
Did you know that chronic stress is a
gateway to developing a wide variety of severe health
conditions? It is a proven fact that being under chronic stress
will weaken your immune system, which can lead to heart and
circulatory conditions, and may cause anxiety and depression.
This means you will be a much healthier individual if you can
find the sources of your stress and eliminate or solve as many
of the factors which are contributing to your high stress
levels. Even though there are some stressful situations that
can't be eliminated, you can still take many steps to help
alleviate some of the unnecessary contributing factors.
Before we look into what you can do to reduce your stress to
a manageable state, let's take a close look at some of the
effects of chronic stress. While some stress
may be natural, excessive stress will very often lead to a
reduced immune system response. Your body will not be able to
defend itself against bacteria and virus as well, if your
immune system is not in good working condition. Therefore, you
will become sick more frequently and easily. Calling in sick at
your job will not reduce stress! Stress is also known to lead
to adrenal exhaustion and a variety of endocrine related
conditions. Stress will put a strain on the functions of your
heart. Chronic stress goes arm in arm with anxiety and, given
enough time, can lead to depression. Now, let's take a look at
what you can do to de-stress, starting today!
No matter how busy your schedule is, arrange the particulars
in your normal schedule the same way you would arrange the
expenses in your budget. Prioritize them with a top to bottom
approach. The must do items should be at the top and the others
can be delt with when time permits or delegated to other family
members. Children can be very helpful little people. They can
fold a load of laundry or empty the dishes, learning
responsibility and helping the family along the way. If you
drive you children to their sports or other activities, see if
you start a car pool with the other parents, alternating weeks.
Anything you can do to save some time will reduce stress. If
it's available, use public transportation instead of driving to
work. You can use the extra time to read, knit or whatever.
You'll save money on gas, as well.
Any type of regular exercise will alleviate built up stress.
If your schedule is too crowded to squeeze in an extra hour,
split it up throughout the day.
Make sure you're eating properly. Proper nutrition is
important! Good nutritional habits will help your body function
like it should, improving your ability to focus and making
quick work of those tasks you have to bring home. Herbal teas,
like chamomile and hibiscus flower teas are soothing and will
help your body relax. A cup of hot chocolate before you go to
bed will help calm your nerves.
What is one of the best ways to reduce your chronic stress?
No matter what else you do, make room for quality family time.
Sitting down and watching a comedy or a family movie encourages
laughter and promotes a overall sense of well being.
As you progress in your efforts to reduce chronic stress,
you will discover more and more ways to refine your methods.
Your body will thank you for it!
