Exercise
Program

If you've never put together an
exercise routine for your health, it can be very difficult to
do. There are some people who grew up with exercise programs,
beginning with football or track at school, and then continuing
to exercise even after they stopped their sports. But for those
of us who did not grow up with sports, it is a lot harder to
stay in shape on our own. This is where a personal trainer can
be helpful or at least an exercise class to get you started off
on the right foot.
In my family, nobody grew up with an
exercise program. We were more intellectual and, to be honest,
not very coordinated to play sports. When we were children, we
wold run around, play games of tag, and keep active that way,
but as we grew up, we became more sedentary. I was in pretty
good shape because I liked to go to concerts and dance, but I
never followed an exercise program. My lack of exercise finally
caught up with me when I was in my mid-20s, when I began to
realize that I was in really bad physical shape.
When I went to my doctor for a checkup I was hit with a
reality check. I found out I had high blood pressure, I was
overweight, and I was at elevated risk for a number of
potential health problems. My doctor said that I needed to
begin an exercise program, and I intended to start right away.
My first plan was to go jogging by myself, but that just didn't
seem to work. I would just skip days or simply cut my exercise
routine short. Finally, I realized this is not going to work
and that I needed outside help.
I began with an exercise class. I thought that going to an
aerobics class twice a week would be a good start and it was.
After a few weeks, I was going to my class three and than four
times each week. My exercise program was really in high gear. I
began using a type of weight loss software that let me keep
track of how effective my exercises were. As I became more
serious about my training I ended up moving to the next step
and found a personal trainer. It took some time and dedication,
but now I'm finally in good shape and really enjoying myself.
Today I am in my late 20s, and I would have to say that I am in
the best shape of my life. Starting an exercise program is
difficult and slow to get going, but in the long run the
results are well worth all the time and effort.
